Chichen Itza disc

A very beautiful ceremonial disc from Chichén Itzà (900 / 1250 AD). A wooden jewel covered with turquoise mosaic, shell, coral and slate! With a diameter of 24cm, it shows the high degree of sophistication of Maya art. Discovered in the super structure Castillo, he evokes the worship of the sun. It is divided into four parts. Each contains a feathered serpent and the metal eye in profile. These four snakes represent the four cardinal points. Before the Toltec invasion, the cardinal points were represented by Chac masks painted in different colors: red for east, white for north, black for west, and yellow for the south. These colors also revived the facades of buildings.
